My Story

I thought I was running away from life. Turns out I was building it.

I'm Meirav Caspi, the Dream Nomad. Private pilot, website builder, and the woman who once wrote a tiny bucket list - and hasn't stopped checking things off since.

Chapter 1

Never fit in

If you’d met me in high school, you probably wouldn’t have bet on me being the one who goes out and devours the world. I was that kid who never felt like she belonged. It started with being shut out in elementary school, turned into my teenage rebellion, and ended with me being held back a grade (yep, I did junior year twice).

The system never fit me, but like everyone else, I tried to fall in line. I finished school, got through the exams, earned a business degree and worked in sales.

I checked every right box, and still felt empty.

Chapter 2

The escape and the first list

At 31, right after finishing my degree and going through a breakup with my girlfriend, I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I bought a ticket to Australia. I was lost. There were some not-so-pretty moments, I searched for myself in all kinds of ways, until one day I stopped everything and started writing.

It wasn’t a diary. Without even noticing, I wrote a list of a few dreams. I wanted to drive a red Mustang, rent a Harley-Davidson, do a road trip on the Great Ocean Road, just feel alive inside. When I rented a camper van for 10 days in Tasmania, I realized it for the first time: This is where I belong. This is how I’m supposed to feel.

Chapter 3

Taking off (literally)

When I got back home, reality hit me again. So I flew to Amsterdam for a temporary job at an airline. I watched pilots walk past me in the hallway and remembered a childhood dream I’d buried since I was 7, because I was told “that’s not for women.” I decided that this time I wasn’t listening to the voices outside. I signed up for flight school and got my private pilot’s license.

Up there, in the sky, my method was born: Every dream has a runway. My analytical brain (something good came out of it after all) figured out that a dream is just a destination you need to choose the right route for. It’s about budget, timing and a whole lot of small, doable goals that eventually get me to the dream.

Chapter 4

The crisis that became an opportunity

At 37, my life took another turn. A 4-year relationship (that included a wedding) fell apart, and painful attempts to get pregnant that didn’t work broke me. I was deeply depressed for two years. What got me out was knowing I wasn’t willing to give up on my life.

I realized that to be truly free, I needed a profession that travels with me. I learned digital marketing and web design, and for two years I built a business with my own two hands. Today I’m the “Dream Nomad.” I make dreams come true, and I fund them by building websites and landing pages for businesses. On the Camino Portugués I carried 40 lbs (18 kg) on my back for about 186 miles (300 km), so that after a day of walking I could open my laptop and just work.

Chapter 5

Why am I here?

The price of this life isn’t simple. Missing my family, and my nieces and nephews who are my whole world, is always there in the background. But the fear of failure that’s followed me since high school has turned into an engine for growth.

This site isn’t just a travel journal. It’s proof that no matter how old you are, what your bank account looks like or how many times you’ve failed before – every dream has a way. It might be winding, it might mean learning a new profession at 40, but it’s possible.
